Have you heard of "Conscious Unbossing"?
A recruitment firm found that 52% of Gen Z professionals surveyed in the UK don’t want to take on middle-management roles, most of which stating that these sorts of roles were “too high stress, low reward”. Gen Z employees are bucking the tradition of middle management as a desirable career path, instead seeking an “individual route to advance their career — one which focuses on personal growth and skills accumulation”.
I actually love this.
Nobody should get into management because it's the only way to make more money, and yet that's exactly what many employees do. Leaders and HR professionals who focus on employee engagement and design more creative career paths in their organizations will attract and retain talented employees.
And to be clear, I believe this isn't just a Gen Z thing. I think this has been true of many generations of workers.
We just didn't have any other options.
